The purpose of the Planning Unit is to Head planning and develop a comprehensive and integrated Municipal plan, Monitor and Evaluate their implementation.
The key functions of the Planning department among others include;
- Formulating, developing and coordinating Municipal plans and budgets;
- Preparing and disseminating performance standards and indicators for the Municipality/Lower Local Governments’ Development Plans and Budgets to users;
- Providing Technical support to Departments and Lower Local Governments in preparation and production of their Sector Development Plans;
- Coordinating formulation of the Municipal and LLGs’ Investment Priorities;
- Monitoring and evaluating performance of Municipal Development Plans programs and projects;
- Maintaining Municipal Management Information System.
- Developing and maintaining an up-to-date Municipal (Statistics) data bank.
- Developing and maintaining an up-to-date Municipal (Statistics) data bank.
Specifically in the FY 2021/22, the unit focused on the following objectives:
- Strengthening capacity for development planning.
- Strengthening the capacity of the statistical system to generate data for Municipal development.
- Strengthening the research and evaluation function to better inform planning and plan implementation..
