Tourism Development

Tourism Development Programme-aims to increase Uganda’s attractiveness as apreferred tourist destination

Tourism Development is one of the 20 Programmes of the NDPIII and it
operationalises objective one of increasing the stock and quality of tourism
infrastructure.

The programme seeks to address key challenges which include:

  • Limited branding, marketing and promotion of the sector.
  • Inadequate tourism infrastructure due to low investment in tourism infrastructure.
  • Undeveloped, narrow product range and under-conserved.
  • Inadequate and unskilled manpower/personnel.
  • Depletion of natural and cultural heritage.
  • Weak institutional policy and regulatory framework due to weak coordination, outdated and non-deterrent laws and small staff strength.

Therefore, the objectives of the programme were to:

  • To promote domestic and inbound tourism.
  • To increase the stock and diversify tourism products and services.
  • To develop a pool of skilled personnel along the tourism value chain and ensure decent working conditions.
  • To enhance regulation, coordination and management of tourism.

Tourist attractions in Busitems Forest Reserve.

The Busitema Forest Reserve is one of Uganda’s least visited tourist sites, despite the fact that it is a true beauty just waiting to be discovered. When you visit this forest reserve, you will be in awe of everything that nature has to offer. This 25 square kilometer forest is located in Eastern Uganda alongside the Tororo-Busia road that leads to the Tororo district.

  • The olive baboons.
  • Vervet monkeys.
  • Black-and-white Colobus monkeys.
  • Ross Turaco.
  • Kingfishers.
  • Long-tailed Cuckoos.
  • Hammerkops, and Sunbirds.
